Remove PDF Metadata, free and private
Clear PDF metadata in one click, or view and edit each field. Every PDF stores hidden properties: title, author, subject, keywords, the app that made it, the software that produced it, and creation and modification dates. Apps often fill these in for you, so the author can be your computer account name and the title an old draft name.
The tool runs in your browser with pdf-lib and qpdf. The file is never uploaded while you clean it, and there is no account or file limit.
How to edit or remove PDF metadata

Add your PDF
Press Select PDF files or drop the document on the page. The tool reads its current title, author, subject, keywords, creator and producer.

Remove everything or change single fields
Remove all metadata is on by default and deletes everything. Turn it off to see the table of current values, then set each row to Keep, Edit or Clear, or press Clear all. Type keywords as a comma-separated list.

Apply changes
Press Apply changes. A new copy is saved, named with -clean.pdf when you remove metadata or -metadata.pdf when you edit it.

Check the result
Press Download PDF, open the file in your PDF reader and look at Document Properties to confirm the fields.

Info fields and XMP both handled
PDFs can store properties in two places: the document info fields and a separate XMP stream. Some readers show XMP first. Remove deletes both, and Edit updates both, so old values don't come back.
No old copy left in the file
The file is rewritten with only the parts still in use. Removed metadata is gone from the bytes, not just unlinked.
Pages stay the same
Only the document properties change. Text, images, fonts and layout are not touched.
How to clear PDF metadata
Remove all metadata deletes the Title, Author, Subject, Keywords, Creator and Producer fields, and the creation and modification dates. The dates are removed, not replaced with a fake date, so your reader shows them as empty. The XMP metadata stream is deleted too.
The file is then rewritten so no unused copy of the old metadata stays inside it. A tool reading the raw bytes finds nothing to recover.
How to edit PDF metadata
With Remove all metadata off, the table shows each field with its value from the file. Edit starts from that value, so you can fix a wrong author or give a report a proper title without retyping the rest. Clear deletes just that field, and Keep leaves it untouched.
The new values go into the info fields and into the matching XMP entries: title, author, subject, keywords, creator tool, producer and the two dates. The rest of the XMP stays as it was. The document language can be set or cleared too.
What PDF metadata can reveal
Check the metadata before you send a file to a client, publish it or submit it anonymously.
- Author: often your full name or a colleague's, taken from the operating system or office app.
- Title and subject: can hold an old project name, another client's name from a reused template, or an internal code.
- Creator and producer: name the apps and versions used to make the file.
- Dates: show when the file was created and last saved, which can contradict the date printed on the page.
- Keywords: sometimes hold internal tags never meant for readers.
What this tool does not remove
PDF Metadata changes document properties only. It does not touch visible text, comments, form data, attachments, JavaScript, or camera data (EXIF) inside embedded photos. Use Remove Annotations or Sanitize PDF for those, and Redact PDF for sensitive text on the page.
