PNG to PDF Converter, free and private

This PNG to PDF converter puts one or more PNG images into a single PDF, one image per page, in the order you choose. PNG is lossless, and so is the conversion: screenshots, diagrams, scanned forms and text in images stay as sharp as the originals.

Screenshots from Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android are usually PNG files, so this is the quick way to send a set of them as one document. The PDF is built in your browser, the images are never uploaded, and there is no account, watermark or file cap.

How to convert PNG to PDF

  1. 1

    Add your PNG files

Press Select PNG images or drop the files on the page. Use + Add more for further images. JPG and WebP files can go in the same PDF too.

  2. 2

    Put the pages in order

Each image shows as a numbered thumbnail. Use the ‹ and › buttons to move it earlier or later. The number is the page it becomes.

  3. 3

Pick the page size and margin

Choose A4, Letter or Fit image, the orientation and the margin. The page previews show where each image lands.

  4. 4

    Create the PDF

Press Create PDF, then Preview to check it or Download PDF to save it. The PDF takes the name of the first image.

Why use PDFToolz for this

Lossless quality

PNG pixels go into the PDF without lossy compression, so small text, thin lines and flat colours keep their crisp edges. Nothing is resized: each image keeps its full resolution.

Transparency kept

Transparent areas of a PNG stay transparent in the PDF, so a logo or cut-out shows the white page behind it instead of a black or grey box.

Many PNGs, one PDF

Add as many PNG files as you need. They are combined into one PDF in the order shown, which is easier to email or upload than a folder of images.

Private by design

The images are read and placed into the PDF by JavaScript on your device. No server receives a copy of your screenshots.

Page size options for PNG to PDF

Every option keeps the image's proportions. Nothing is stretched or cropped, and each image is centred on its page.

  • A4, the default, makes 210 × 297 mm pages. Letter makes 8.5 × 11 inch pages, the US and Canadian standard.
  • Fit image makes each page the shape of its image, sized as if printed at 150 DPI, so a 1200 pixel wide screenshot gives a page about 20 cm wide. No page side is longer than an A4 page, 297 mm. This suits screenshots and slides read on screen.
  • Orientation Auto turns each A4 or Letter page to match its image. Portrait or Landscape uses the same direction for every page.
  • Margin Normal leaves 12.7 mm (half an inch) of white around each image, Small leaves 6.35 mm, and No margin lets the image reach the page edge on its longer side.

PNG to PDF file size

Because PNG is kept lossless, the PDF is roughly as large as the PNG files together, and it can be somewhat larger, since the PDF stores the pixels with its own compression rather than the PNG's. Photos saved as PNG are big for that reason.

If the PDF is too large to email or upload, run it through Compress PDF, or Compress PDF to Size to hit a limit such as 1 MB. Compression re-saves large images as JPEG, which suits photos but can soften small text in screenshots.

PNG, JPG or another converter?

Pick the converter that fits your images:

  • Photos from a camera or phone are usually JPG. JPG to PDF embeds them byte for byte and turns sideways phone photos upright.
  • iPhone photos in HEIC format need HEIC to PDF, and multi-page TIFF scans need TIFF to PDF.
  • Photos of paper documents look better through Scan to PDF, with its edge cropping, straightening and document filters.
  • To go the other way and save PDF pages as PNG images, use PDF to PNG.
