SVG to PDF Converter, free and private
This SVG to PDF converter turns SVG files into a vector PDF. Paths, shapes, strokes and solid colours become PDF drawing commands, so logos, icons and diagrams stay sharp at any zoom and print at the full resolution of the printer.
Add several SVGs to get one PDF with a page for each. An SVG that uses text, gradients, filters or embedded images is drawn as a 300 DPI image instead, and the result lists which files that happened to. The conversion runs in your browser, scripts inside the SVG never run, and the files are never uploaded.
How to convert SVG to PDF
- 1
Add your SVG files
Press Select SVG files or drop .svg or .svgz files on the page. Use Add more for further files.
- 2
Set the page order
Each file gets a numbered card. Use the ‹ and › buttons to move it earlier or later. The number is the page it becomes.
- 3
Choose page size and drawing
Fit image with No margin, the default, makes each page exactly the size set in the SVG. A4 and Letter centre the drawing on a standard page, with Orientation and Margin to adjust. Under Drawing, keep Vector or pick Image, 300 DPI. Each page preview is marked Vector or Image, so you see which files fall back to an image before you convert.
- 4
Convert SVG to PDF
Press Create PDF. The result lists each file as Vector paths or as an image. Press Preview to check the pages or Download PDF to save them.
Why use PDFToolz for this
Vector output, not a screenshot
Each shape becomes a PDF path with the same curves, so the PDF looks as clean at 6400% zoom as at 100%. Arcs and quadratic curves are rewritten as the cubic curves PDF uses.
Styles carried over
Fill and stroke colours, opacity, dashes, line caps and joins, miter limits, the even-odd fill rule and clip paths are kept. Style sheets with tag, class or id selectors, as Illustrator writes them, are applied too.
Safe to open
Scripts, event handlers, embedded web pages and animation are removed before anything is drawn. Nothing is fetched from other websites.
Exact page size
Fit image reads the SVG's width and height at 96 pixels per inch. With the default No margin, an 800 × 600 pixel SVG gives a page of 8.33 × 6.25 inches. Sizes written in mm, cm, in or pt are used as written.
What converts to vector paths
The converter reads the SVG markup itself and writes the matching PDF drawing for each element:
- Shapes. path, rect with rounded corners, circle, ellipse, line, polyline and polygon.
- Structure. Groups, nested svg elements with their own viewBox, and use elements that repeat a shape or symbol.
- Position. The translate, scale, rotate, skew and matrix transforms, plus viewBox scaling with preserveAspectRatio.
- Paint. Colours as names, hex, rgb() or hsl(), currentColor, fill and stroke opacity, and group opacity, which becomes a PDF transparency group so overlapping shapes fade together.
- Clipping. clipPath made of shapes, in the default user space units.
When an SVG is drawn as an image
Some SVG features have no direct PDF path equivalent. If a file uses any of them, the whole file is drawn as an image, so it still looks the way a browser shows it:
- Text and textPath. PDF text needs the font file, which an SVG usually doesn't contain.
- Gradients and patterns, filters such as drop shadows and blur, masks and arrowhead markers.
- Embedded images, CSS selectors with combinators or pseudo-classes, CSS transforms, blend modes and non-scaling strokes.
How the image fallback works
Your browser draws a cleaned copy of the SVG onto a canvas at 300 DPI for the size it has on the page, and the tool stores it as a PNG, so transparent areas stay transparent. On very large pages the resolution drops so the image stays within 16 megapixels.
Text in the image uses the fonts installed on your device. Fonts and images embedded in the SVG as data URLs are used. Fonts and images linked from a website are not loaded. The text in an image page can't be selected or searched, but OCR PDF can add a text layer.
Pick Image, 300 DPI under Drawing to draw every file this way. That helps when an SVG relies on something the vector converter reads differently from your browser.
Sending a logo or artwork as PDF
Print shops, sign makers and embroidery services often ask for vector PDF artwork. After converting, check the result list. Vector paths means the logo can be scaled to a banner without losing detail.
If a file shows as an image because it contains text, turn the text into outlines in your design app and convert again. In Inkscape, select the text and use Path, then Object to Path. In Illustrator, use Type, then Create Outlines.
Limits
Links inside the SVG are not clickable in the PDF. Content that a script would build when the SVG opens in a browser is missing, because scripts are removed. Colours are written as RGB, so a print shop that needs CMYK or spot colours should convert the PDF in its own software.
Frequently asked questions
Add your SVG files, set their order, pick a page size and press Create PDF. Each SVG becomes one page of the PDF.
Yes, for SVGs made of shapes and paths with solid colours. Files with text, gradients, filters or embedded images are drawn as 300 DPI images, and the result list names them.
Yes. There is no account and no watermark, and the files are converted on your device.
Yes. Add all the files, put them in order with the ‹ and › buttons and press Create PDF. You get one PDF with a page per SVG.
It uses a feature PDF paths can't express, such as text, a gradient, a filter or an embedded photo. The result list names the feature. Convert text to outlines in your design app to get a vector page.
Yes. This page does the conversion in any current browser on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, iPhone and iPad, with nothing to install.
With Fit image and No margin, the defaults, each page has the width and height set in the SVG, at 96 pixels per inch. A margin adds white around the drawing. With A4 or Letter, the drawing is scaled to fit and centred on that page.
No. The SVG is read and converted by JavaScript in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.
