Fill PDF Form Online, free and private
To fill out a PDF form online, open the PDF here, click a field on the page and type your answer, then press Download and save the filled PDF. It works with fillable forms, the kind with built-in text boxes, checkboxes, radio buttons and dropdowns, and with flat forms that have none.
You can keep the fields editable for someone else, or flatten the form so the answers become part of the page. You can also sign and date it in the same place. The form is filled in your browser, so your name, address and ID numbers are never uploaded.
How to fill out a PDF form online

Open your PDF form
Press Select a PDF file, drop the form or paste it anywhere on the page, or press Try a sample PDF. It opens full screen, with the form's fields ready to type in and answers already in the file filled in.

Type your answers
Click a field on the page and type, tick the checkboxes and pick options from the dropdowns. Or use the Form fields tab on the right, which lists every field with a readable name and shows how many are filled.

Sign, date and tick
Use the Signature, Date, Text and check mark tools for anything the fields don't cover. On a flat form, click anywhere with the Text tool to type on the page.

Download
Press Download, choose Keep fields editable or Flatten (lock answers), and save. The file name ends in -filled.pdf unless you change it.

Accents, Greek and Cyrillic
Answers that need it use Liberation Sans, a font that covers Latin letters with accents, Greek and Cyrillic. Names like Ștefan, Łukasz or Ελένη come out right. Chinese, Japanese and Korean are not covered.

How to fill out a PDF form, step by step
Open the form and wait a moment while its pages load. Click a text field on the page and type. Checkboxes tick when you click them. Radio buttons and dropdowns let you pick one of the form's own options. Undo and redo cover every answer.
Fields you don't touch keep their original value and look, so pre-filled answers stay as they were. Read-only fields are shown but can't be typed in. Push buttons and digital signature fields can't be filled here.
On a small phone screen, the Form fields list is often easier than the page. Every field is listed with its name and page number, and your answers are the same in both places.
How to fill in blanks on a PDF that is not a form
If the Form fields tab says the PDF has no fillable fields, the boxes on the page are only printed lines. This is common with scanned paper forms and files saved from Word. You can still fill it here:
- Pick the Text tool and click the page where the answer should start, then type.
- Set the font, size and colour in the style bar. 10 to 12 points matches most printed forms.
- Tick boxes with the Check mark or Cross tool, and add today's date with the Date tool.
- Drag any answer into line with the Select tool, or press Delete to remove it.
- Press Download. Typed text, ticks and dates are drawn into the page, so they print like normal text.
Flatten, sign and send a filled form
Flatten the form when it is finished and you are sending it. Flattened answers can't be changed by accident, and they look the same in every viewer. Keep the fields editable when a colleague or an office still has to fill in their part. You can flatten later with Flatten PDF.
If the form needs a signature, pick the Signature tool, draw, type or upload your signature and click where it goes. This adds a visible signature image, not a certificate-based digital signature, so check that the recipient accepts it. If the file is too large for an upload portal, run Compress PDF last.
If an answer does not come out right
Most forms fill without trouble. If something looks wrong in the downloaded file, check these:
- An answer is cut short. The field has a character limit set by the form, and you can't type past it.
- Long text looks cramped. The form sets the box size and font, so shorten the answer or use a multiline field if there is one.
- Some answers stay editable after you chose Flatten. Those fields have an unusual setup, so they are left as fields rather than risk losing the answer.
- The form asks for a password to open. Remove it with Unlock PDF, using the password you know, then fill the unlocked copy. Forms that open freely but block printing or editing work here directly.
- The PDF shows a please wait message or no fields in some viewers. It is probably an XFA form, a format only Adobe software fully supports. XFA-only forms show no fillable fields here, but you can still type on the page with the Text tool.
