PDF to CSV Converter, free and private

Convert a PDF to CSV for free. The converter finds the tables on each page, puts every cell in its own column and saves comma-separated values that open in Excel, Google Sheets, Numbers or LibreOffice, and load into a database, an accounting app or a Python or R script.

A preview shows the rows and columns that were found before you save, so you can check the table first. The PDF is read in your browser and never uploaded, which matters for bank statements and invoices. It needs a PDF with selectable text, so run a scan through OCR PDF first.

How to convert a PDF to CSV

  1. 1

    Add your PDF

Press Select a PDF file or drop the PDF onto the page. The tables are found as soon as the pages are read.

  2. 2

    Check the detected tables

The preview shows the rows and columns that were found, with every chosen page in one table. Press Copy CSV to paste them straight into a spreadsheet.

  3. 3

Choose one file or one per page

One file, the default, puts every chosen page into a single CSV, which suits statements that run over several pages. One file per page saves a CSV for each page, packed in a ZIP, and the preview then steps through the pages.

  4. 4

    Convert and download

Pick the pages if you only need some, press Convert to CSV and download the .csv file or the ZIP. The result shows how many rows and columns were found.

Why use PDFToolz for this

Columns from the page layout

Text on the same line becomes a row, and columns are found from the gaps that run down the table, so names and amounts land in their own columns and empty cells stay empty.

Clean numbers

Amounts such as 1,234.50, 1.234,50 or (45.50) are written as plain numbers like 1234.5 and -45.5, so they sum and sort after import. Dates, IDs with leading zeros and long account numbers are written exactly as printed. A CSV has no cell types, so when Excel opens it directly it can drop leading zeros or round long numbers: import those columns as text, or pick PDF to Excel, which saves them as text cells.

CSV that opens cleanly

The file is UTF-8 with a byte order mark, so Excel shows accented letters correctly. Fields with commas, quotes or line breaks are quoted, and text that starts with =, +, - or @ is prefixed with an apostrophe so a spreadsheet never runs it as a formula.

Private

No account, watermark or page limit, and no upload. The table is rebuilt on your device with pdf.js.

How PDF tables become CSV rows

A PDF has no table structure, only text placed at fixed spots and lines drawn between them. The converter reads where each piece of text sits and rebuilds the grid: text sharing a baseline becomes a row, a gap wider than a word space starts a new cell, and cells that overlap from row to row share a column. Titles and notes above the table go into the first column.

Cell borders, shading, merged cells and fonts are not part of a CSV, so they are left out. If a cell's text wraps onto two lines in the PDF, each line becomes its own row.

CSV or Excel?

CSV is plain text: one line per row and commas between cells. Pick it to import transactions into accounting or budgeting software, load data into a database, or read it with code. For a spreadsheet with number formats, column widths and one sheet per page, PDF to Excel saves an .xlsx workbook from the same tables.

Bank statements and scanned PDFs

For a statement, keep One file selected and choose only the pages with transactions, so the cover page and small print stay out. Page headers repeat on each page; filter them out after import.

A scanned statement holds pictures of pages with no text to read. Run it through OCR PDF first, then convert the result here, and check the amounts against the original, since OCR can misread a digit on a blurry scan.
